When properly cared for, a fine quality pair of ladies leather gloves should last several seasons.
To keep them in their best, like-new condition, here are some tips and suggestions:
Store your leather gloves in a cool dry place where they won’t be exposed to moisture or even worse, mold.
Lay your gloves flat and place tissue paper or cloth between them and place in a plastic zip storage bag.
Be careful to not lay anything on top of your ladies leather gloves to avoid creasing them.
The object is to keep the gloves in their original shape.
If the inner lining of your ladies leather gloves becomes soiled, you may consider bringing them to a dry cleaner that specializes in cleaning leather products. Many dry cleaners don’t handle leather so be sure to check around beforehand.
If your leather gloves become dusty or lightly soiled with dirt, use a soft cloth or towel to dust them off.
If you choose to do a deeper cleaning on your ladies leather gloves, follow the tips below:
First, decide if your gloves are made of a finished or unfinished leather.
If your ladies leather gloves are a finished leather, dampen a cloth and wring it tight so that its not dripping wet. Add a small bit of moisturizing soap onto the damp cloth and rub into the leather until the dirt is removed. Next, wipe the gloves clean with a second dampened cloth and then buff the gloves with a lint free dry towel.
For unfinished ladies leather gloves use saddle soap.
Using a damp cloth, apply the saddle soap to the glove and work into a lather. Wipe clean with a damp cloth and lay the gloves flat on a clean dry towel and allow to air dry.
To help preserve the look and feel of your ladies leather gloves, purchase a good leather conditioner and apply it yearly or after any at-home cleaning treatments.
For unfinished leather gloves, Mink oil is recommended.
Remember to keep your gloves stored in a dry – humidity free – cool place and be sure they are laying flat to prevent wrinkles, folds and creases.
